About Maha Pratyangira Devi
Pratyangira is a Shaktism-related Hindu goddess with ties to the Saptamatrika mother goddesses within the Atharva Veda. She is also known by the names Atharvana Bhadrakali, Narasimhi, Simhamukhi. She is said to be Narasimha's consort and the violent manifestation of Tripura Sundari's fury. In Nikumbala Homa, dried red chilies are used in the fire to get rid of bad omens, ward off evil, and protect against the malevolent eye (drushti).
Narasimha, Vishnu's fourth manifestation, defeated the evil asura king Hiranyakashipu during the Treta Yuga. He later took the form of Gandabherunda after Shiva changed into Sharabha, but Sharabha was unsuccessful in carrying Narasimha and was devoured. All the 6 shakthi’s: Brahma, vishnu, maheshvara, saraswati, lakshmi and parvati joined forces and got goddess pratyangira devi to earth. In order to calm god narasimha, pratyangira devi performed sandalwood abhishekam.
Shree Maha Pratyangira Devi, manifestation , wields the power to repel evil forces, embodying a fearsome Human Lioness form with a dark complexion, red eyes, and four hands clutching a trident, serpent, trident, and hand drum. She’s said to have 1008 faces, 2016 hands, and rides a lion-drawn chariot, her purpose being to calm the anger of lord Narasimha.
In the Krita Yuga’s final stages, a brilliant spark gave birth to the demon Vipulasura, who interfered with the Ashta Lakshmi rituals of eight sages. This caused the goddess to change a lotus into a shield with 562 petals, allowing the sages to carry out their rituals without interruption, and she later took the form of Narasimhi and defeated the demon.
